(Gettysburg, PA: 04/22/2023) — In recognition of Earth Day 2023, the Adams County Community Foundation awarded $13,500 in grants through its Adams County Fund for the Environment to support environmental stewardship in Adams County.
The Fund for the Environment selected three projects, awarding grants to the County of Adams to establish a glass recycling collection facility, Strawberry Hill for outdoor education stations and St. James Lutheran Church to install a pollinator garden at SpiriTrust Lutheran Village.
The County of Adams
$10,000 to the County of Adams to establish a yet to be located drop-off facility to collect glass for recycling. The grant will support building a concrete pad with concrete block walls on three sides. The county will provide the use of a front-end loader to coordinate with companies that recycle glass.
Strawberry Hill
$2,000 to enhance environmental education experiences for children and adults. This grant will support adding seating, a raised platform, and an outdoor blackboard in various locations throughout their campus. These outdoor education stations will provide teaching spaces for larger groups than established trails allow.
The Creation Care Task Force of St. James Lutheran Church
$1,500 to the Creation Care Task Force of St. James Lutheran Church to establish an 8 x 48-foot pollinator garden near the Hope Trail walking path at SpiriTrust Lutheran Village in Gettysburg. Flowering plants or seeds will be present in all seasons, with signage and occasional education talks.
Previous Adams County Fund for the Environment grants supported the Gettysburg Green Gathering, Adams County Historical Society solar energy project, and Gettysburg College for research on the state of glass recycling in Adams County.
