(Gettysburg, PA: 12/30/2022) — With gratitude to its generous donors, the Adams County Community Foundation distributed $201,500 in grants through its Adams County Grants program in 2022 to improve conditions for children and women suffering abuse, young people preparing for adulthood, people in recovery from substance abuse, low-income homeowners, and all who walk or bike in the borough of Gettysburg.
Adams County Grants are made possible by individuals, families, and businesses who have contributed to The Fund for Adams County, the Community Foundation’s growing, permanent endowment used to address the needs of the community today and prepare for the needs of tomorrow.
Adams County Children & Youth Services – Independent Living Program – $6,500
Youth in foster care receive assistance with the purchase of a used car to access better employment opportunities beyond walking distance.
Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center – $25,000
Reflecting a trend seen elsewhere during the pandemic, incidences of child abuse in Adams County have risen sharply in recent years. This grant supports a new, full-time Community Outreach and Education Coordinator who will launch a broad public information campaign to help adults learn how to recognize and react appropriately to suspected child abuse.
Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center – $ 25,000
An increasing number of child abuse cases led to the need for a second Child & Family Advocate position so families receive timely, thorough, ongoing support.
Adams County Technical Institute – $25,000
This grant supports a new Workforce Development Coordinator position. The coordinator works with educators and local businesses to identify training students need and help students secure job shadowing opportunities for on-the-job experience.
Adams Rescue Mission – $25,000
Adams Rescue Mission is building an endowment to ensure a dependable revenue stream to sustain their services to the homeless and others recovering from addictions and trauma. This grant is for an experienced endowment campaign consultant to guide ARM in achieving their goal.
Giving Spree Incentive Match – $10,000
The Adams County Community Foundation Giving Spree Incentive Match helps all participating Giving Spree nonprofits by encouraging donors to support their favorite local organizations. This grant is distributed to each nonprofit in proportion to the amount they raised during the Giving Spree.
Healthy Adams Bicycle/Pedestrian, Inc. – $15,000
This is a challenge grant to leverage additional state and local support to build a section of the downtown Gettysburg Inner Loop Trail from Buford Avenue to North Franklin Street. Since 2005 HABPI has worked with local and state government as well as businesses and residents to acquire, develop and maintain trails for bicycling and pedestrian use, providing healthy, green options for commuting and recreational use.
Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) – $20,000
This grant supports on-call staff, office space, and materials in Adams County for direct service to victims of rape.
Servants, Inc. – $25,000
Improving conditions for health and safety helps people maintain independence in their own homes. Servants, Inc. engages churches, businesses, and individual volunteers to provide home maintenance and repairs for low-income, usually elderly and/or disabled homeowners. This grant supports a Project Manager to expand this home repair program into Adams County from its base of operations in Red Lion.
Safe Home Adams County, a program of the YWCA Hanover – $25,000
Victims of abuse receive financial assistance to attain or maintain safe housing. This assistance is individualized and flexible for those whose needs “fall between the cracks” of government grant eligibility.
Adams County Grants are fueled by numerous donors who have created their own charitable funds to be used by the Community Foundation to address the current and evolving needs of Adams County. These generous supporters include Thomas E. & Florence B. Metz, Jack & Bobbie Phillips, John S. & Kimberly L. Phillips, Eric & Suzanne Flynn, Thomas P. & Roberta C.
