At its May 30, 2018 Annual Meeting, the Adams County Community Foundation announced the receipt of an endowment grant award of $500,000 from the trustees of the J. William Warehime Foundation to support the Community Foundation’s annual day of giving.
Mr. J. William (Bill) Warehime was the son of Harry V. and Airie (Knipel) Warehime, who in 1924 founded the Hanover Canning Company, now the Hanover Foods Corporation.
Mr. Warehime was a graduate of Eichelberger High School, class of 1945 and Gettysburg College, class of 1950. He had been active in many community organizations and has given generously to local charities. Mr. Warehime died in 2008.
The endowment grant will be used to create the J. William Warehime Fund for Adams County. Grants from this fund will be used to support the “stretch pool” at the Community Foundation’s annual Giving Spree, Adams County’s day of giving. This year, the Giving Spree is scheduled for November 8, 2018 at Gettysburg Area Middle School and is anticipated to welcome over 1,000 donors and 75 local nonprofit organizations.
