(Gettysburg, PA: 12/4/2024) – The Adams County Community Foundation has announced $115,000 in new grants, bringing the total awarded this year through its Adams County Grants program to $215,000. Adams County Grants are made possible by donors who contribute to The Fund for Adams County, the Community Foundation’s growing, permanent endowment used to address the needs of the community today and prepare for the needs of tomorrow.

Pressures on individuals and families, the struggle to earn a living wage, and attaining affordable housing are not unique issues to Adams County. But here we have groups working together and making progress. Community Foundation CEO Ralph M. Serpe said, “These Community Foundation grants strengthen the quality nonprofits that help people who live here thrive.”

Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center  $25,000

The Children’s Advocacy Center will expand mental health services on site and train community mental health providers in trauma therapy, reducing the waiting period for treatment by accredited counselors. This grant helps more people receive appropriate treatment sooner.

Adams County Technical Institute  $15,000

Civil engineering firms will conduct site analysis of potential new technical school building sites. In their future facility, ACTI will expand the number and quality of training programs to prepare a local workforce for Adams County businesses.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region  $10,000

Multiple school districts will have the opportunity to incorporate Big Brothers Big Sisters’ proven in-school mentoring program. This school year at least one district will match 15-20 high school mentors with younger students, and more groups will follow.

Children’s Aid Society  $15,000

Children’s Aid has successfully run Parent Support Groups in other counties and will expand the program into Adams County, improving the quality of life for families. Members benefit from interactions with trained staff, parents facing similar challenges, and “alumni” parents who can share with the newcomers what they have learned from their own support group experiences.

Servants, Inc. $25,000

This grant will increase the home repair projects already underway in towns across Adams County, enabling elderly, low-income and disabled homeowners to age in place safely and independently.

Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program  $25,000

A full-time development director is supported by this grant to manage the capital campaign, build the endowment to support maintenance of a new, larger facility and expand programs to serve more people.

Adams County Grants are fueled by donors who have created their own charitable funds to be used by the Community Foundation to address the current and evolving needs of Adams County. These generous supporters include Thomas E. & Florence B. Metz, The Forward Fund, Jack & Bobbie Phillips, John S. & Kimberly L. Phillips, Eric & Suzanne Flynn, Thomas P. & Roberta C. Henninger, Fred & Rita Diehl, Donald H. & Mildred C. Hershey, M.C. Jones, Sharon Trew Cline Magraw, Charles Ritter, James D. & Eleanor B. Sheen, George & Roberta Wood, and the legacy of founding father Ben Franklin.
